I know I ask a lot of questions but I have another curiosity.

How come posts in the anything goes section don't show up in the "Whats new"?

I noticed, a while ago, another section that doesnt show up but forgot.

they all show for me. what i'd want is to be able to omit certain forums, like if i don'y care about welcome section or biggie section, i wouldn't have to see em. make it so, josh!

all sections show in whats new tab. if you have viewed the threads/posts already in the section, they are marked as read on your end and will not show as new

i have looked into this extensively and it doesnt seem to be possible without a 3rd party application. there was one from 2005 for a much older version of vbulletin, but that one doesnt work anymore. the only way i could do it, would be to turn off the ability to search in sections. if i turned off search indexing in a section, that section would not show in whats new, however it also would not be searchable, and the change would effect everyone. I cannot set it per user/group

the best way i see so far is by minimizing the module you don't want too see.
you have to click the arrow that is located on the top right of the module.

but it wont hide recent posts from their sections

I don't use the main forum page to look for posts, I always use the new posts feature and browse that.
