I have rebuilt the Nikola style the same way the original one was made [MENTION=1052]BigR, but this time I used the latest version of the forum software to do it.

There may be a few bugs, but it should hopefully work a bit better for ya

I'll switch right away, but I had another speed issue every time I want to go to the notification screens (likes/thanks, quotes and mentions), but the rest of the site seems fine since I went dark

Took notice last couple of days I feel like the site is working better and faster. In fact I think overall, the site is more bug free.. Before small errors would randomly appear from time to time. But now those have gone away too..

So yeah. Site is faster and better.

Ah yes I am glad you said that. I noticed that too, well before installing the latest update too. I believe the user tag table is getting huge because of the mass amount of mentions used during out free post threads lol, causing queries to take longer. I will dive into it tonight.

confirmed this issue is related to the mentions mod. its not actually a problem with the notification screens, but loading any part of a users profile, because it has to pull your entire history of mentions. looking at ways to fix it now

Is there a way to purge stuff from previous years? Any old mentions are pretty useless, but I'm sure there's some stat that would get erased and people who like high numbers would become upset lol

yea deleting all but like the last 30 days of mentions would be the quick and easy way, but im sure a few people would be unhappy about losing the stats.

ill figure something else out

Here's an idea... Get rid of the mentions from the free post thread.. It had thousands which are not legit

you sir, are a freaking genius. I knew the freepost thread was the majority of the mentions, but it never clicked on me to try and remove from that thread.

simply deleting all posts or even the entire thread wouldnt do anything, as the mentions are already in the database.

BUT

since the freepost thread is only open for 24 hours at a time, all the mentions are contained in those dates.

using some nice little mysql queries, I was able to knock out all mentions from the date the freepost thread was open.

this amounted to just over 1 million, of a total of 1.4 million mentions in the database lol.
