So as most of you probably saw, the site was down for awhile. Due to the increased activity on the site, and in turn, the increased activity on the shoutbox, our web host, Host Gator, was forced to suspend us.
The shoutbox is a very server intensive modification. I had it set to refresh every 1 second, for every active member on the box. This is good for smaller sites, but as we get bigger, it obviously wont suffice as the server load gets so great, that it causes severe slowdown.
For now i have reduced the refresh rate to every 3 seconds. This should slow the server load down enough that it doesn't cause problems for Host Gator. I will monitor the server load to ensure.
