The 82nd Annual Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, went down in Los Angeles on Sunday night (March 7), and the showdown better the night's faves, "The Hurt Locker" and "Avatar", was not close at all.
It was a knockout for Kathryn Bigelow's "Hurt Locker", which took home honors for Best Picture, among other categories. And ... Bigelow became the first woman in Academy Award history to win for Best Directing.
The film is American war thriller, starring Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty as members of a U.S. Army EOD unit in Iraq.
It was first premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2008, then came to the US in June 2009.
According to Wikipedia: It follows their tour as they contend with defusing bombs, the threat of insurgency, and the tension that develops among them. The title is slang for being injured in an explosion, as in "they sent him to the hurt locker."
