  • At The Movies: 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Sails Away With Box Offi

    Very easily, pirates hijacked the weekend box office, and sailed past all other movies to become the #1 film in the nation.

    "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment in the Disney franchise, raked in a massive $90.1 million over the weekend; where Johnny Depp reprises his popular role as the flamboyant pirate Capt. Jack Sparrow.

    Despite middling reviews, it earned an impressive $256.3 million overseas as well, giving the film a world-wide gross of $346.4 million worldwide -- the highest international movie opening of all time.

    After debuting at #2 las week, the comedy "Bridesmaids" held steady at the position, bringing its total nearly $60 million domestically.

    "Thor", last weekend's top movie, battled for #2, but came up short, earning $15.5 million in its third weekend, and falling to #3. It's earned $145.4 million thus far.

    "Fast Five" fell one spot to #4 with $10.6 million; and "Rio" stayed at #5 with $4.7 million.

    That's a wrap for this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the release of the highly anticipated "The Hangover Part II," and the animated sequel "Kung Fu Panda 2".
