  • The Dark Tower Is Back

Warner Bros. looks to take on abandoned King adaptation.

As a very tall man once said, it is happening again. Yep, the movie version of Stephen King's The Dark Tower is back on track.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is now "very close" to making a deal that will bring the post-apocalyptic tale of Roland Deschain to the big screen under the guiding hands of director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer and writer-producer Akiva Goldsman.

Universal had dropped The Dark Tower last summer, though at that time Grazer said he and his partners were determined to get the planned trilogy off the ground elsewhere. And in fact, word came shortly thereafter that the also-planned TV series portion of the project -- previously set for NBC -- would air on HBO instead. (Warner Bros. and HBO are both part of mega-corp. Time Warner.)

So now, Warner Bros. has purchased Goldsman's script and have him working on a polish, with an eye to shooting in the first-quarter of 2013. Javier Bardem, oft-mentioned as a potential Roland Deschain, is still a possibility but of course this will depend on scheduling now.
