It sounds like New Line's Vacation reboot may not be much of a reboot at all. Horrible Bosses' John Francis Daley, who is set to pen and direct the film with writing partner Jonathan Goldstein, says that they would like to find a place for the franchise's original stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo.
"It is something that we've been warned not to screw up," Daley said. "We have confidence that there's still a lot to tell in the story of the Griswolds. And we've been involved with it for so long, it felt like the natural next step to direct."
A few weeks ago, it was rumored that Ed Helms was in talks to star as the new Clark Griswold, but The Hollywood Reporter says that the story would actually be a continuation of the original, this time following an adult Rusty Griswold, son of Chase's Clark and D'Angelo's Ellen, as he experiences his own familial misadventures.
"There'll be no recasting, except for the fact that Rusty will now be grown up," Daley continued. "We don't know who will be playing him, but we intend to have a part for Clark Griswold. Chevy, we're hoping he'll be down to come back -- and Beverly D'Angelo as well."
