The Mummy Will Rise Again Universal taps Prometheus scribe to reboot series

Universal is breathing new life into The Mummy.

Variety reports that the studio has hired Jon Spaihts, the original screenwriter of Prometheus, to script the franchise reboot for producer Sean Daniel, who also produced the past Mummy pics.

"I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus: to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before," Spaihts told the trade.

The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor raked in over a $1 billion for Universal.
