Jon Landau says we should expect to wait for more Pandora.
With James Cameron's Titanic returning to the big screen this weekend in 3D, more rumblings about Avatar 2 have been popping up in recent weeks as well.
Cameron's production partner Jon Landau, who just returned from the bottom of the Marianas Trench, was able to give a brief update on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. Although previous reports suggested that the films were aiming for 2014/2015 releases, Landau says that the sequels are still a ways off.
"We're not naming dates, but I think 2014 will be a tough date for us to make," he explained to Empire. "It's about getting it right... Movies make release dates; release dates don't make movies."
However, the producer adds that Weta Digital is hard at work developing the project. "We have our core team, (animation supervisor) Richie Baneham and (digital effects supervisor) Nolan Murtha, working with us. And we're working on underwater performance-capture."
