  • The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is Broken Apart

Do you really hate one of the films in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy? Or, did you break one of your discs and don't want to shell out big bucks to replace the whole Blu-ray set? Warner and New Line have a solution for you!

On August 28, 2012, Warner Home Video will break The Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition Trilogy back up into three individual releases. This move is not expected to affect or discontinue the current Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition Blu-ray box set.

Specs and bonus features will inevitably remain the same. Fans can expect in-depth, 5-disc sets for each title, including commentaries, featurettes, documentaries and more. Each title is presented in 2.39:1 widescreen, with 6.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. No word on whether the slight green tint from Fellowship will be corrected for this release.

Warner Home Video has not indicated what the suggested retail for each title will be, and Amazon does not have pre-order pricing for these titles just yet. At this time, box art has also not yet been unveiled.
