  • Could Bourne 5 Team Damon and Renner?

Producer Frank Marshall is hopeful that the original Jason Bourne will return.

If wishes were horses… Well, then you'd be getting Matt Damon back for the next Bourne movie.

As far as we know, Damon, of course, is not in this August's The Bourne Legacy (aside from his character getting namedropped here or there). Replacing him in a completely new role is Jeremy Renner, but now producer Frank Marshall has told Empire that "my dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up."

A man can dream. But will it actually happen? Certainly the box office of Legacy will need to be examined first and foremost. And then there's the matter of Damon not wanting to make another Bourne film without director Paul Greengrass, who helmed the second and third films in the series…

Meanwhile, the new film's writer-director Tony Gilroy has explained the set-up of Legacy a bit more, using some Shakespeare in the process.

"If you think of the first three Bourne films as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, then we're showing you Elsinore," Gilroy says. "You thought you were seeing something you weren't. What if there's a much larger story? What if Treadstone wasn't the only black-ops programme?"
