Kevin Durand (Real Steel, I Am Number Four) and Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes, Immortals) have joined the cast of The Mortal Instruments, Variety reports. They'll star opposite Lily Collins, Jaime Campbell Bower and Jemima West in the Constantin Film and Unique Features production.
Based on the first book in the popular literary series, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," the film is set in contemporary New York City. There, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
Durand and Maillet are set to play the villainous Pangborn and Blackwell.
Principal photography is expected to begin August 15 in Toronto with Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) directing from a screenplay by Jessica Postigo and I. Marlene King. Robert Kulzer is producing for Constantin Film and Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are producing for Unique Features. Martin Moszkowicz, Constantin Film’s head of Film & TV, is executive producing.
