  • Weekend Box Office: 'Ice Age: Continental Drift' Easily Takes #1

With fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming Batman film, the only wide release of the weekend, Ice Age: Continental Drift, easily took the weekend box office over last weekend's top film, The Amazing Spider-Man.

The fourth Ice Age film in the series, and first in 3D, took in $46 million to shoot to #1 this week. In it, characters Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world. It features the voices of Drake, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Nicki Minaj.

Ice Age is the third animated blockbuster to debut at #1 this summer. Previous #1 films included Pixar Animation's Brave and DreamWorks Animation's Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.

Spider-Man fell to #2 after topping the list last weekend, bringing in another $35 million and pushing its domestic total past $200 million. It earned nearly $67 million overseas over the weekend, bringing its worldwide gross to $521.4 million.

In at #3 is Seth MacFarlane's R-rated comedy hit, Ted, which stars Mark Wahlberg and a talking teddy bear. It added $22.1 million in its third week for a total of $159 million for Universal Pictures.

In fourth place, Brave added $10.7 million to its $195.6 million domestic total; and the male-stripper tale Magic Mike held at #5 with just over $9 million.

That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of the anticipated Batman blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises.
