The horde of silly looking yellow minions from Illumination Entertainment's Despicable Me are getting their own spin-off movie. The Minions were led by Groo in the Despicable me films, and are a huge hit among the kiddies. The teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel feature The Minions, and it seems to get a lot of laughs every time I see it at the movies. My kids love these characters, and are their favorite part of the movie.
According to Deadline, "The film is an original story that will introduce new characters and reprise others that originated in Despicable Me, but the focus is on the antics of the yellow fellows as they interact with human characters."
I could really care less about seeing a movie that focuses on these character, but I can see it being very successful. One thing that's very interesting about this is we have no idea what the minions are saying! But apparently The studio and creative talent found a way around that little obstacle, we just don't know what that is. In the end it looks like we'll be able to understand them.
The script for the movie was written by Brian Lynch, and it will be directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. Coffin co-directed the first Despicable Me movie and is helming the sequel with Chris Renaud, and the two of them also do the voices for The Minions. As for Balda, he co-directed Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax with Renaud.
The plan is to release the film in 2014, a year after Despicable Me 2 is released, which is on July 3rd, 2013. Are you a fan of this franchise, and does a movie focused on The Minions excite you?
