  • Kevin Eastman Reveals Why Ninja Turtles Reboot Got Delayed

A month ago we learned that the new Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) directed reboot of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was going to be delayed. Not much information was given on why, other than they were going to work on the script. But there's more to it than that, and it's been revealed in a recent interview between TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and CBR in which he said,

Essentially they pushed it back for two reasons: One is the director, Jonathan Liebesman, wanted to make sure he could do the effects to the level he wants them at, and the fight scenes to the way they should be. Also, their release date is almost exactly on the 30th anniversary. May 5, 1984 is when the first Turtles comic came out. May 16, 2014, is almost exactly 30 years after. So basically it’s an anniversary movie now… I talked to [producer] Scott Mednick yesterday, and he’s seen the most recent 50 [script] pages and said it’s as good as the last version — they’ve really knocked it out of the park.

Eastman is very involved with the project. He's been working with Liebesman, Mednick and the writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. He says that he's "doing sketches, drawings and character designs, bouncing stuff around with the writers, talking with the director and the producers -- I'm actively involved."

I hope this movie turns out as badass as it's expected to be. After all, they want the same kind of crazy martial arts fighting style that we saw in The Raid. Do you think this Ninja Turtles movie will end up being awesome now that you know the characters' co-creator is heavily involved with it?
