  • Warner Premiere is Closing Up Shop: Lost Boys Series Staked for Good?

Warner Bros. announced today that its home video brand Warner Premiere is closing its doors for good. This is the division that gave us genre titles like the direct-to-DVD sequels Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst.

The branch of Warner Home Entertainment premiered in 2007 with Return to House on Haunted Hill. Other horror titles followed like The Hills Run Red. When Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat was being kicked around by the studio, the Halloween favorite was dumped to Warner Premiere for release. The company also packaged Mortal Kombat: Legacy - the popular digital series that rolled out on Machinima.

Deadline says that Warner Bros. intends to take any future projects and simply fold them into Warner Home Video, Warner Digital Distribution or Warner Bros. Animation. The question now is: Is the Lost Boys direct-to-DVD series dead? The second film did well enough to spawn a third and, during press for the latter, there were rumblings of a fourth. But that was some time ago and buzz on another film has grown quiet.

Warner seems more interested in pursuing Mortal Kombat. A second season of the digital series is going into production soon...
