  • The Maze Runner Adaptaion To Be Directed By Wes Bell

20th Century Fox has hired short film director and the head of Oddball Animation, Wes Bell, to develop a feature film adaptation of the dystopian novel The Maze Runner. The story sounds pretty awesome, and I can see it making a solidly entertaining movie.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and centers on a character named Thomas, "who after having his memory wiped is deposited in a community of boys trapped in an enormous maze. He soon learns they are part of a mysterious test, and finds it is his destiny to join the ‘maze runners’ and lead them to freedom. Peter Kang and Daria Cercek are overseeing at the studio. Noah Oppenheim wrote the first draft of the script."

Below you'll find the trailer for the short that Bell directed called Ruin, which the studio recently acquired as well. Ball will also be directing that feature film as well. Check out the short and let us know if you think Bell has what it takes to be a feature film director, and if you think he's a good choice to develop this project.

Here's the desription from the book:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.
