After rocking the box office last week, the star-studded cast of Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables 2 held steady at #1 again, beating out new films such as The Apparition, Sony's action/thriller Premium Rush, and Hit & Run.
The Expendables sequel -- which stars Stallone alongside Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture, Jason Statham, and Terry Crews -- took in $13.5 million during a really slow summer weekend, bringing its domestic total to just over $52 million.
The Bourne Legacy also held steady, remaining at the #2 spot with $9.3 million, and $85.5 million in three weeks; ParaNorman held at #3 for another week with $8.5 million; The Campaign stayed at #4 with $7.4 million; and The Dark Knight Rises climbed one spot to #5 to close out the top listings with $7.15 million.
The other three wide releases to drop this weekend failed to make an impact.
Premium Rush, a bike-riding action flick by Sony, took in $6.3 million to open at #7, just slightly more than the $6.2 million the documentary 2016: Obama's America grossed playing in roughly 1,100 fewer theaters.
Hit & Run, Dax Shepard's road trip comedy, collected a weak $4.7 million during its first weekend to debut at #10 and the horror film The Apparition barely took in $3 million to start at #12.
That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of Shia LeBeouf's Lawless, the animated family film Oogieloves In The BIG Balloon Adventure, and the Lionsgate horror flick The Possession.
