  • Kevin Feige On Marvel's Plans For Thanos

I think a lot of people were surprised to see Thanos at the end of The Avengers in the post credits scene. It was funny in the theaters because half of the people cheered, and the other half were like, "who in the hell is that?" The fact of the matter is Thanos is going to play a big role in the Marvel movie universe and in a recent interview with MTV Marvel's Kevin Feige talked about their plans with the Mad Titan.

Clearly, there's a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie. We do have plans for him. I wouldn't say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off. I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what's right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.

It will be interesting to see where and how they end up using the character, but there's a possibility that whatever role he plays in the story could continue on in the third phase of Marvel's movie universe. In a previous interview with Feige when asked if Thanos would be in Thor: The Dark World he said, "No, Future, Future."

This villain is one of the Eternals, who's consumed with the desire to destroy and conquer. He's linked to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which will lead us into The Avengers 2. It doesn't sound like Thanos will end with the Avengers sequel though. Feige doesn't go into any details of where Thanos will show up next, but he's excited that more people know who he is,

Suddenly, you have a million people who had never heard of an Infinity Gauntlet or a Mad Titan learning those terms. I love that. I love when the experience goes beyond the movie theater and encourages people to look deeper into our universe.

What are your theories on where Thanos might pop up next in Marvel's movie universe?
