  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman To Direct Despression Era Ghost Story

Actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman has landed a new directing gig in which he would develop a Depression Era ghost story called Ezekiel Moss.

The story follows a widow and her son who are visited by a strange man who may have the ability to communicate with the dead. The boy ends up befriending him. It's based on a 2011 Black List script written by Keith Bunin. Here's part of a review of that script from scriptshadow,

The character development is top notch. BECAUSE it’s top notch, the dialogue’s strong (a great understanding of character usually results in strong unique dialogue for each character). And then everything just feels authentic – not easy to do when you’re setting your story 80 years ago.

This would be Hoffman's second time directing a film. The first film he directed was Jack Goes Boating, which was a decently made movie. Ezekiel Moss just has a much more interesting story, and if the script is strong there's a good chance this could turn out being a really great horror movie. The films producer Cathy Schulman had this to say in a statement,

Hoffman is one of the great talents of our generation. We are thrilled to be in his capable hands directing this captivating and gothic exploration of faith and the supernatural.
