  • Matt Reeves Off Twilight Zone, Up for Apes Sequel

Cool group of directors reportedly on the short list for Caesar's next.

Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves has parted ways with Warner Bros.' feature film version of The Twilight Zone, and is now said to be on the short list of contenders to helm Fox's sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Variety's Justin Kroll tweets that Reeves is off Twilight Zone and that Warners has now placed the TV-to-film adaptation as an open directing assignment to agencies. (Here's hoping that Warners calls on their rman Christopher Nolan to direct; he was under consideration for it this time last year.)

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Rupert Wyatt has indeed left the sequel to his hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes because he didn't feel he could deliver the film he wanted by the studio's previously announced May 23, 2014 release date.

In addition to Reeves, the short list of potential Apes 2 directors is said to include "The Disappearance Of Alice Creed helmer J Blakeson, 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Take Shelter and Mud director Jeff Nichols, Pacific Rim helmer Guillermo del Toro, The Impossible helmer Juan Antonio Bayona and Looper helmer Rian Johnson (Johnson’s reps deny he is in the hunt)."
