Last week we reported that Let me In director Matt Reeves was at the top of FOX's list to replace Rupert Wyatt as the director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Today Deadline reports that Reeves is officially on board to helm the project. Looks like this was the reason why he may have dropped out as the director of the new Twilight Zone film being developed at Warner Bros.
Out of all the directors in the running it seemed like this project was more fit for Reeves and his style. Other directors in the running included, J Blakeson (The Disappearance Of Alice Creed), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), Jeff Nichols (Crazy Heart), Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim), Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) and Rian Johnson (Looper).
I loved Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and I hope Reeves will be able to take the sequel to a new level badassery. The director has a solid visual style, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he ends up doing with this franchise. Do you think Reeves is a solid choice to take on the apes? Have you enjoyed his previous films such as Cloverfield and Let Me In?
