  • Grudge Match W/Stallone and De Niro Gets Greenlight From WB

    Talk about a one-two punch.

Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro were in talks to star in a boxing drama called Grudge Match for Warner Bros., and according to Deadline, the studio has officially given the project the greenlight. Not only are the two boxing legends on board (famous for playing Rocky Balboa and Jake LaMotta, respectively), but WB has snagged up-and-coming comic Kevin Hart to play the fighting promoter that sets up the battle between these two heavyweights.

Peter Segal (Get Smart) is set to direct, with a script by "Entourage" creator Doug Ellin. After the instant reaction of, "man, these guys are freaking old," it actually makes sense from a studio standpoint: Stallone is still capable of bringing in audiences as seen in his Expendables franchise, and De Niro is appearing in one of the year's best-reviewed films, David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, so it seems like a no brainer to throw these guys in the ring together and watch the audiences flock to the theater. Hopefully they can bring out the best in each other and this won't be a total gimmick-driven project, and I'm definitely going to have to see a trailer to know what the overall vibe is going to be for this one.

Interested in seeing Rocky and Jake LaMotta battle in the ring?
