Michael Dougherty Talks Potential ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Sequel!

Back in 2006 (republished in 200 we brought you the first ever review of Michael Dougherty’s awesome horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat, which eventually was put directly to home video as Warner Bros. failed to get behind it. Since then, the film starring Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker and Leslie Bibb has become a cult classic. It kills it every Halloween, and has become an annual treat for horror fans.

Whether or not Warners or Legendary Pictures will openly admit it, Trick ‘r Treat is a monster success, and should be a franchise. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not open to the idea. Nor does it mean that Dougherty has strong desires to make one.

It was reported out of the New York Comic-Con this past weekend that Dougherty wad trying to convince Legendary to allow him to make a sequel. We checked in with the artist/screenwriter-turned-director to see what he had in store for Sam and co.

We called Dougherty to see if we could get an official statement regarding a potential Trick ‘r Treat sequel and learned exclusively that, unfortunately, there’s no active development nor an attempt at a pitch. But that doesn’t mean it’s not out of the cards.

“It would be great to do, maybe some day well get to it,” Dougherty tells us. “Every year I think about it a little more, obviously.

“I hear you [fans]. I want to [do it eventually]. I’m seriously kicking it around,” he adds.

If fans really want a sequel, they should descend on the movie’s official Facebook page and make their voices heard.

And residents living in Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City should support their local Trick ‘r Treat screenings popping up over the next two weeks.

And there’s also the Fearnet 24 Hour Trick ‘r Treat Marathon forthcoming.

“The more fans continue to support and spread the movie, the more likely it is that Sam will rise from the pumpkin patch once more,” Dougherty urges.

In the film, four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.
