Sean Penn isn't really known for his action films, he's more of a dramatic and intense kind of guy. His upcoming role in Gangster Squad looks like the most action-packed film he's done so far, but now he's set to jump on board an action film franchise called Prone Gunman.
Joel Silver is producing the movie, so that should give you sense of what kind of action movie we're talking about. The film will be based on a novel written by Jean-Patrick Manchette, the story follows an international operative named Martin Terrier (Penn) who is betrayed by the organization he works for and must go on the run in a relentless game of cat-and-mouse across Europe. The script for the film was written by Peter Travis.
Penn will join the ranks of Liam Neeson, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzengger and Bruce Willis as actors over 50 involved with the action movie business. Maybe he should join The Expendables 3 now.
What do you think of Penn getting in on the action film genre? Here's the description of the book that the film will be based on:
Martin Terrier is a hired killer who wants out of the game—so he can settle down and marry his childhood sweetheart. After all, that’s why he took up this profession! But the Organization won't let him go: they have other plans. Once again, the gunman must assume the prone shooting position. A tour de force, this violent tale shatters as many illusions about life and politics as bodies.
