  • ‘Sinister’ Pulled From More Than 40 French Theaters Because…

It was reported via French press late last week that more than 40 French theaters had pulled the theatrical release of Scott Derrickson’s Sinister. Why? Distributor Wild Bunch blames Paranormal Activity 4 (also produced by Blumhouse) and more than a handful of despicable, disrespectful, ignorant and disgusting theatergoers.

Here’s a translation (and slight edit) of what Wild Bunch had to say via Facebook: “Some rooms last weekend have experienced some problems with the spectators Panamornal Activity 4 – confectionery counters looted, cashiers insulted, urinating on the seats, etc. – thus, more than 40 confirmed theaters have simply canceled their programming of Sinister this week.”

They continue: “The exploitation of films called ‘gender’ is not easy in France, so we ask our future spectators please be respectful of the rules of courtesy and for those interested, do not hesitate to ask their cinema film schedule next week.”

Sinister, starring Ethan Hawke, James Ranson and Juliet Rylance, begins when found footage helps a true-crime novelist realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity.
