  • First Look At Shartlo Copley In Eysium

Here's your first look at District 9 star Sharlto Copley in Neill Blomkamp's new amazing looking sci-fi film Elysium. Copley plays the villain in the story named Kruger, and he sure looks like an insane badass! There's been very little of this movie released online, but they showed a some great unfinished footage of it at Comic-Con. Hopefully the release a trailer for the film sometime in the near future! In a previous interview Copley compared his character to The Joker, but in a recent interview with Empire, he says it was a mistaken reference and explains his character a little more...

The Joker was a mistaken reference. I was really just saying that that was the last time I saw a villain that inspired me: somebody that set the bar. There’s no connection or likeness to The Joker in terms of the character. What I did with him — which I try to do with all my original characters — was draw from real life. I combined references from a very infamous South African military battalion called 32 Battalion, that fought in the Border Wars in South Africa, and a stereotype of character that you get in the south of Johannesburg, where the guys are a little bit more comfortable with violence!

The movie also stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, Diego Luna and here's the story description.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The sci-fi thriller is set to be released in theaters on August 9th, 2013!
