Skyfall has become the first James Bond movie to reach over $1billion ticket sales worldwide.
The high octane spy film has been deemed a huge success since its release on October 23, with many describing it as the best Bond instalment ever.
But a rush over the Christmas season helped to set the new record.
'Skyfall, which was released to mark Bond’s 50th anniversary in film, grossed $710.6million (£440million) outside of North America alone,' British newspaper Metro reports. 'The latest Bond flick is the third movie to cross the $1billion mark this year behind Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Batman film The Dark Knight Rises.'
Daniel Craig, who has portrayed the legendary spy in the last three 007 movies, has proven very popular with viewers.
Before Skyfall set a new benchmark for global ticket sales, the British actor’s Bond debut in Casino Royale held the top spot within the franchise, beating previous iconic spies including Sean Connery and Roger Moore.
The latest part of the Bond series set yet another record earlier this year, when it surpassed £100 million UK ticket sales in October.
