  • Horror Dominates January Box Office. Again. ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ #1!

Slashing expectations, Texas Chainsaw 3D topped the domestic B.O. Friday with $10.2 million. Variety reports that the Lionsgate scarer, projected to earn in the mid teens this frame, is now looking at a three-day haul more in the low-to-mid $20 million range.

The pic appears to be following a trajectory similar to Paramount’s The Devil Inside, which beat expectations when it earned $34 million this time last year, though Chainsaw won’t likely hit that height, says the site. Late night Thursday screenings contributed $1.2 million to Friday’s figure.

Thus far Evan Dickson and Jonny B. have shared their reviews of the seventh sequel in the franchise that started with Tobe Hooper’s 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
