Weekend Box Office: 'Hansel & Gretel' Easily Takes #1

  • Weekend Box Office: 'Hansel & Gretel' Easily Takes #1

    Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters cooked up $19 million in its opening weekend.

    The Paramount action fairytale beat out Parker and the Movie 43 comedy to take the weekend box office. It features Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as grown-up renditions of the title characters battling witches with crossbows.

    Last weekend's top film, the Universal horror flick Mama, landed at #2 with $12.8 million, taking its total to $48.6 million.

    The Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence comedy, Silver Linings Playbook, held at #3 this week with $10 millon; while Zero Dark Thirty fell two spots to #2 with $9.8 million.

    Closing out the top 5 is Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez's action flick, Parker. It took in $7 million in its first weekend.

    And... the last wide release this week is Relativity Media's ensemble comedy, Movie 43. It opened in the #7 spot with $5 million. Elizabeth Banks, Emma Stone, Kristen Bell, Naomi Watts, Halle Berry, Uma Thurman, Gerard Butler, and many others had minor roles in the film.

    That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of the Sylvester Stallone action/thriller Bullet to the Head, and the zombie drama, Warm Bodies.
