  • ‘Pinocchio’ Not Fossilized Just Yet!!

Yesterday we reported that Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, a stop motion animated project he was set to co-direct with Mark Gustafson (animation director for Fantastic Mr. Fox) for the Jim Henson Company, had been put on hold.

The report stemmed from a series of tweets from writer/artist Chris Grimly in which he said, “Short to the point update on Pinocchio for those inquiring: It appears that this is not the right time for such a superior-adventurous flick… There are people like us out there. But they look at numbers. Frankenweenie was a box office failure to them.”

Now Grimly clarifies his statements to Dread Central, and they seem a little less… grim, “I want to clear up the rumor that was started due to misconstrued information that I posted on my networks. Pinocchio is indeed kicking and has interest from the studios. Although, I thought it could be quiet for a little while, I never thought it could be canceled. It’s just too good.”

It sounds more hopeful I suppose, but the road ahead is long indeed.
