The folks over at Latino Review claim they have yet another insight into the future of the Marvel movie-verse. Their sources say that after the Hulk stars in Avengers 2, he'll be back to his own movies, which will supposedly be adaptations of the fan-favorite Planet Hulk and World War Hulk storylines. But let's break this down a little.
• Latino Review seems to lean heavily on this quote by Marvel's Kevin Feige, who told MTV: "I don't think there's a lot that we couldn't do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe. "Planet Hulk' is a cool story, ‘World War Hulk' is a cool story. I think there's pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself [with those cosmic projects]. It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I'd say everything is on the table."
I don't think that's nearly as definitive proof that Marvel is adapting Planet Hulk as Latino Review seems to believe it is, but it certainly doesn't rule out a Planet Hulk movie.
• Latino Review claims that Avengers 2 will end with the Hulk being shot into space by the movie-verse Illuminati.
A couple things here: 1) there's not really any Marvel movie-verse Illuminati. There's Tony Stark, but that's it. They can't use Mr. Fantastic, and I can't imagine that Marvel is going to try to introduce Dr. Strange, Black Bolt and the Inhumans, and/or Namor, just in order to set up Planet Hulk. In fact, I'd say it's impossible.
• Another problem: There's no way Marvel can have this type of major conflict between its heroes without one of them looking like an asshole. Either Tony Stark is being over-reactionary and shooting the misunderstood Hulk into space — which would fly in the face of their relationship established in The Avengers — or the Hulk has to do something terrible enough to justify Tony shooting him into space, in which case it'll be tougher for audiences to want to see him star in his own movie.
• Also, I feel like any Planet Hulk movie would have to begin with Hulk being shot into space. That's the start of the story, and I don't think Marvel would even try to shove it into the tail end of another movie.
• However, there is an easy solution — start Planet Hulk with the Hulk being shot into space, and have it done by General Ross. Although that precludes World War Hulk... unless it's just Hulk smashing the military instead of various superheroes, which I'd be fine with.
Obviously, a lot will depend on how Guardians of the Galaxy does, and Feige clearly loves Marvel's space stories, but I don't know if mass audiences are ready for a Hulk-in-space movie
