A big, fat Star Wars rumor is circling the internet about the batch of Star Wars movies Disney is cooking up. We all know that J.J. Abrams is going to direct Episode VII, but the mouse house isn't just going to make Star Wars movies that continue on the Skywalker story. Disney has plans to make a collection of stand-alone movies that will pepper the years in between the big episodic movies.
This way Disney can take advantage of any timeline or untapped character backstory they want. Now comes the rumor: AICN is reporting that the first stand alone film is going to center upon Yoda. And while they don't have any other additional information beyond that rumor, they're fairly certain that this is fact:
At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate... I'm wildly curious for more details on the YODA film - would this be a young or old YODA tale?
Remember this is just a rumor, and we have to admit we're surprised they're not going after Joe Johnston's (Captain America) Boba Fett pitch he threw out a year ago, but let's go with it. Can Yoda work as the star of a major movie? Would his speech, while awesome, wind up driving the audience insane after an hour or so? Does this character work outside of a cameo role? Also could this be the movie that Empire Strikes Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan is working on? Only time will tell.
