I love the films that David Ayer has made over the years. His last film End of Watch was pretty amazing, I saw it three times in theaters to get other people to see it. The director is now set to write and direct an original World War II film from a spec he wrote called Fury.
The movie takes place in 1945 as the Nazi regime collapses, the story follows a five man crew of an American tank called Fury who battle a desperate German army. The director said that the goal is to "bring a fresh execution to the genre. What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience."
Producer Bill Block added, "Fury is not your father’s WWII movie, it digs deep into the complexities of battlefield heroism."
Ayer is mostly known for making cop dramas, but I'm really excited to see what he'll do with a World War II film like this. He's currently working with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the film Ten, which also sounds awesome!
Fury is working toward a Fall production start date.
