Jason Reitman has once again decided to completely flip the cast for his February Live Read, presented by Film Independent at LACMA. This time around, the film is Glengarry Glen Ross. Best known as a 1992 movie starring Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Ed Harris, Glengarry Glen Ross is based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play by David Mamet. Mamet adapted the screenplay for the film and that script is what Reitman’s Live Read will be based on.
The twist, though, is that he’s doing it with an all-female cast. The ladies will A – always, B- be, C- closing on February 21 in Los Angeles. Read the cast below.
Entertainment Weekly broke the news of the cast, which is as follows:
Robin Wright will play Al Pacino’s character Ricky Roma
Catherine O’Hara will play Jack Lemmon’s character, Shelley Levene
Maria Bello will play Ed Harris’ character Dave Moss
Allison Janney will play Alan Arkin’s role George Aaronow
Mae Whitman will play Kevin Spacey’s character John Williamson
Alec Baldwin’s role, which was not in the play but was created for the film, has yet to be announced.
Talking to EW, Reitman explained the idea:
We toyed with the idea of doing a gender swap on a film like Top Gun, but instead decided on a full reverse from men to women Glengarry was Elvis [Mitchell]’s idea. It’s the perfect candidate as there is no reason this script needs to be read by men outside of our own social stereotypes.
Unfortunately, tickets for the event sold out weeks ago, long before the subject or cast was announced. (There will a stand-by line on the night of the event.)
