Looks like Joe Carnahan is no longer directing the Death Wish remake. According to Deadline the reason is due to creative differences. Apparently Paramount and MGM wanted Bruce Willis to to star in the film, and Carnahan didn't think that was the best casting decision for the film, so he ended up dropping out.
I have to side with Caranahan on this one, I don't really think Willis is the right guy to take over the role made famous by Charles Bronson. It's kind of a shame, because I think Carnahan would have been a great director for this movie. I have no doubt he would have did some crazy awesome stuff with the movie. There's a chance that he could end up directing a movie called Narco Sub, which Tony Scott previously set up at FOX. It will be interesting to see who the studio hires to take his place.
Death Wish tells the story of Paul Kersey, a liberal architect who morphs into an assassin after his wife and daughter are brutally attacked. He then undertakes a one-man mission to hurt and kill a host of criminals on the streets of New York.
