It was a blowout this weekend with Fast & Furious 6 taking the #1 spot by a mile, beating out all other wide releases, including The Hangover Part II and the animated Epic.
Universal Pictures' sixth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise brings in $98.5 million. In it, Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) reassemble their crew in order to take down a mastermind who commands an organization of mercenary drivers across 12 countries. In exchange, they get full pardons all the way around.
The final edition of the Warner Bros. comedy trilogy, The Hangover Part III, takes in $42.1 million for second place. It stars Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, who heads to Las Vegas again.
Last weekend's top movie, Star Trek Into Darkness, falls to #3 with $38 million, while Iron Man 3 closes out the top 5 with $19.4 million to take its domestic haul to $367.5 million.
Fox's animated family film, Epic, debuted at #4 with $34.2 million. In it, a teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil is taking place. So, she bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world -- and ours.
There is still one day left during Memorial Day Weekend, which is expected to finish ahead of 2011's record-breaking $276 million ... at around $323 million.
