The numbers are in and, as expected, Monsters University took the number one slot at the box office. Still, World War Z made a nice chunk of money at number two.
The Brad Pitt-starring PG-13 zombie film grossed an estimated $66 million this weekend. The film is doing quite well overseas, too, bringing its worldwide gross to $112 million.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount is going to start developing a sequel. No surprise as Pitt has been talking "trilogy" for a while now.
This just goes to show that the general public didn't necessarily give a damn about the film's behind-the-scenes drama.
Meanwhile, The Purge continues to hold well at the box office. The film sits at number eight. It has made $59.4 million to date.
