Lakeshore Entertainment snatched the rights to the Luna Brother’s hit comic book series “The Sword” last year, but they haven’t announced much about the development since. However, the project appears to be moving ahead slowly as The Wrap reports that Lakeshore has hired Watchmen screenwriter David Hayter to adapt the series.
Production is expected to begin early 2014.
Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg tells The Wrap, “David has a proven track record of bringing the multifaceted, beloved characters of graphic novels to mainstream audiences and we’re excited that he’ll be joining us for ‘The Sword. Lakeshore has a history of delivering large-scale genre films at a budget that enables our international independent distributors to participate, and ‘The Sword’ will provide that opportunity.”
In addition to Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, Hayter’s screenwriting credits also include X-Men, X2 and The Scorpion King.
