Ever since Neill Blomkamp released District 9, fans have been patiently waiting for the sequel, District 10. Blompkamp is currently finishing and promoting his next film project, Elysium, and after that he's moving on to his sci-fi comedy Chappie.
When talking about Chappie with Wired, the director says, it's about sentience: “If something is as smart as you, do you treat it differently if it isn’t a human?” He goes on to describe the script as "laugh-out-loud funny but also emotional." Then adds, “It’s fairly touching, buy, you know, fraught with gunfire.”
Maybe when he's finished with that one he'll get around to doing District 10, which he said exists as an 18-page story treatment. He doesn't give any details on the story, but he did say that it is “really fucking cool.” Here comes the bad news though, Blomkamp says he's not prepared to commit to the sequel, meaning its future is even more uncertain than it was previously.
Blomkamp also revealed that he turned down the possibility of working on a new Star Wars project so he could make original films.
This guy is a very talented director, and he will have a long career of bringing us original and awesome films!
