Johnny Depp is going to continue keeping Disney happy by returning as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland 2. According to Deadline, he's in final negotiations with the studio to star in the film which is being helmed by Muppets director James Bobin. That's right, if you haven't heard, Tim Burton won't be back, and I think that's a good thing because I didn't really care for what he did with the first movie. I think it could have been a lot better.
Depp recently starred in The Lone Ranger, which completely bombed. But a couple bad movies like that and Dark Shadows won't hurt his career. The actor is very much in demand, and Disney still wants to be in business with him. The Lone Ranger does prove, though, that even Depp's name can't save a bad movie that people don't want to see.
The actor is also set to star in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 with Kon Tiki directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. He's also in negotiations to star in another non-Disney film called Mortdecai, which is an an adaptation of the book The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery by Kyril Bonfiglioli.
Are you excited to see that Depp is coming back to play the Mad Hatter?
