story hit yesterday that didn't seem significant at first until we probed a bit deeper with the help of some colleagues overseas.
Since the release of Scream 4, we've heard both Harvey and Bob Weinstein express their interest in a fifth chapter.
Harvey Weinstein, recently attending the Zurich Film Festival, was quoted by Indiewire as saying this about Scream 5. “Everyone lived in Scream 4." He added that the sequel rests in his brother's hand. "I’m begging him to do the movie and just end it. We’ve milked that cow.”
Ah, but they haven't milked it enough, apparently, because Scream is in development as a television series at MTV. In addition to Indiewire being present for Weinstein's quotes, our pals at BlairWitch.de were there and Weinstein had something interesting to say about the show.
According to the site, Weinstein told the attending press that there will be no overlap between the film franchise and the television series.
BlairWitch.de reports, the series "is supposed to represent a new beginning and also pursue a supernatural direction." That's according to Weinstein's statement.
A supernatural angle thrust onto the Scream universe? How is that going to work?
Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin of Revenge and Criminal Minds are writing the show, so we shall see...
