  • New Friday the 13th Found Footage Movie Being Planned

Recently, producers from Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay‘s production company who also gave us the 2009 reboot, were currently looking for screenwriters with particular talents in adapting the beloved franchise into Found-Footage format.

The prospect of watching Jason Voorhees up close and personal is interesting enough, however it’s going to take some doing for it to come out right. I imagine it as a scary version of the last ten minutes of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Although there are still several fans out there wanting a new Friday the 13th, many are skeptical that the franchise has run its course and needs to put down. With sequels, prequels, and reboots getting the cold shoulder from audiences lately, giving the franchise the Found-Footage treatment could prove fatal.

However, Found-Footage films are relatively cheap to produce while making millions at the box-office. Paranormal Activity was made for just $15,000 and made over $193 million at the box-office, which in turn spawned four sequels with a spin-off and a fifth installment coming 2014. One can argue the financial success of the franchise jumpstarted the popularity of Found-Footage films since The Blair Witch Project in 1999. I suppose the only thing we can do is wait and see…
