Dwayne Johnson has signed on to star in a new earthquake thriller called San Andreas. The story is set after "a devastating earthquake hits California and centers on a rugged rescue-helicopter pilot (Johnson) making a perilous trip across the state to rescue his estranged daughter." Of course he is, that's just what Johnson does.
The movie is being directed by Brad Peyton, who recently directed Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, so you know it's going to be good! I'm kidding! Journey 2 was a terrible film!
The movie is set up at New Line cinema and according to the report the studio hopes "to out-Roland Emmerich Roland Emmerich with this project, envisioned as epic in scope." That's just a terrible way to describe a movie. I don't think anyone should ever compare their movie to Emmerich's work. It doesn't help unless you're an Emmerich fan.
Judging from what we know about the movie so far, it's safe to say that it's going to be a very mediocre film with lots of big special effects. Johnson can do better.
