Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in the boxing drama Southpaw, which is set to be directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day). The script for the film was written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, and Eminem was previously attached to star in the film.
Gyllenhaal will play "a welterweight boxer who fights his way to the title, only to see his world collapse after tragedy strikes." The film will follow the character as he "fights to reclaim his past glory and win back the affection of his young daughter."
The actor has had a run of really great films, such as End of Watch and Prisoners, and this sounds like it would be another solid movie for him to be a part of. He also plays dual roles in an upcoming film called Enemy, and he's attached to star in Baltasar Kormakur’s Everest and is currently filming an indie crime drama called Nightcrawler that he's also producing.
