Although Iron Man 3 is the highest-grossing movie of 2013, bringing in $1.2 billion, Robert Downey Jr. didn't top Forbes' TopGrossing Actors list. Instead, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson beat him this year by working more.
For Downey, Iron Man was his only movie of 2013, while The Rock had several -- including Fast & Furious 6, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Pain & Gain, Snitch, and Empire State. All the film credits added up to $1.3 billion, giving him the top spot on the 2013 Forbes list.
Next year may just as big for Johnson as well. Next summer, another installment of Fast & Furious is coming, and he's slated to star in the Hercules remake. If both films perform as expected, he could seem himself among the top of next year's list.
Comedian Steve Carell lands at #3 with $964 million, thanks to Despicable Me 2, The Way Way Back and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Rock's Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel ranks #4 on the list with $887 million, the majority of which comes from the racing franchise; and Paul Walker lands at #6 for the biggest hit of his career, Fast & Furious 6.
At #5 is Sandra Bullock with $862 million, thanks to Gravity, which notched her an Oscar nomination and brought in $632 at the box office.
