In case you were wondering when you were going to see that new Wolverine sequel happen, the director of The Wolverine, James Mangold, revealed on Twitter that they are figuring it out, and that the pan is to start shooting after X-Men: Apocalypse:
@R__E__D_R__U__M @20centuryfox @ShuDonner We are figuring it all out. At the moment, I'm shooting The next #Wolverine after #XmenApocalypse .
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released in May 2016, so the soonest we will see another Wolverine movie will be in 2017 or 2018. It doesn't sound like Wolverine will have a place in the story for Apocalypse, but we don't know that for sure yet. There's also no guarantee at this point if Hugh Jackman will even return to reprise his role. Jackman is getting older, and he can't play this character forever. It's inevitable that one day he'll have to be replaced.
I'll be very surprised if Jackman decides to do another Wolverine movie, because it's been sounding like he's ready to move on, but we'll see. When it is time for Jackman to be replaced, it will be interesting to see who they cast.
