  • George R.R. Martin Looking into GAME OF THRONES Movie

It looks like there's a possibility we could see a movie based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. The author says that the prospect is actively being discussed. While talking to THR he said,

"It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."

He also went on to mention another big-screen possibility being considered is one based on Tales of Dunk and Egg, which is a series of three prequel stories that Martin wrote. They revolve around a group of characters that includes Ser Duncan the Tall, who lived in the the fantasy world of Westeros 90 years before the events depicted in A Song of Ice and Fire.

"They could be the basis for [a film]. I have written these three stories, and I have about a dozen more."

He went on to explain these the prequel characters "are the direct ancestors of some of Game of Thrones' players, but he wouldn't reveal how they relate."

With the success of Game of Thrones on HBO there's no doubt in my mind that we'll eventually see a movie of this world up on the big screen. It's just a matter of what story they will tell. No matter what they do, I'm sure it will be an epic companion piece to what is being done on HBO. I really hope they bring in the same talent that is currently developing the series. I do like the idea of continuing the HBO series on the big screen.
