Director Doug Liman is in final negotiations to direct the big screen adaptation of the hit video game franchise Splinter Cell, which is set to star Tom Hardy. Liman is the same director who has brought us films such as Swingers, Go, The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jumper, Fair Game, and the upcoming Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow. The guy has a solid resume of work, and I think he's a great choice to bring Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell to life on the big screen.
Before Liman came on board the movie was in development at DreamWorks and Paramount and it had Peter Berg attached to direct. The project is now set up at New Regency with Ubisoft leading the charge. I think the current project is in good hands, and I hope Liman gives fans a film they can be proud of.
The game centers on Sam Fisher, a spy for a secret government organization called Third Echelon which fights terrorists. The script for the film was written by Eric Singer, who wrote the initial draft for David O. Russell's American Hustle, so we know the script is going to be good!
