Screenwriter Sheldon Turner -- whose works include Up in the Air and the story for X-Men: First Class -- has been hired by New Regency and Ubisoft to pen the script for Splinter Cell, based on the popular video game franchise of the same name.
A couple weeks ago, it was announced that Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) will be directing the action film, which has Tom Hardy set to star. As Deadline notes, all three of these men -- Liman, Hardy and Turner -- have also been collaborating on Sony's upcoming Everest, which is expected to begin shooting next year. Until then, the hope is to start production on the Splinter Cell movie this August for a 2015 release.
The story follows Sam Fisher (Hardy), a highly-trained operative that works for a fictional government organization called Third Echelon. American Hustle's Eric Singer wrote the initial draft of the script.
Liman will also produce Splinter Cell, along with Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and Jean-Julien Baronnet of Ubisoft Motion Picture Group.
